Spring Bass Fishing
Spring is one of our favorite times of the year to catch big bass and numbers of them. There is many different ways to fish during the spring as well. During the pre-spawn, we like to fish from 4 to 12 feet of water. Throwing baits like jerkbaits, slim bodied crankbaits, squarebill crankbaits, and spinnerbaits produce many fish. When the bite is slow during the pre-spawn, try a shaky head or a jig fished slowly and you should get bit. Spawning pockets and points are really productive during the pre-spawn, that's where you will probably find most of the bass.
During the spawn, shallow pockets with hard bottom will be where you find the largemouth spawning, we always find them bedding around docks, brush, or rocks. We like to throw a Texas rigged creature bait in there beds and they will usually hit that pretty well. Baits that resemble Bluegill or Crawfish work great on there bed too. When we are looking for spawning Spotted Bass, we find them in depths from 5 to 10 feet deep. A Carolina rig, Texas rig, or a shaky head will catch them. We usually do the same the for Smallmouth. Lizards, U-tale worms, and creature baits catch them really well on a Carolina or Texas rig. A floating worm will work really well for spawning Largemouth, Spotted, and Smallmouth Bass. We throw a floating worm in a bright color and we fish it around brush or grass. We catch most of our big bass during the spawn.
In post spawn, the bass are feeding and many of them are skinny because they just got done spawning and they have been guarding there nest. Jerkbaits, topwaters, floating worms, squarebill crankbaits, and swimbaits are really good picks for this time of year. We catch many bass around Bluegill beds this time of year, bluegill imitating baits work well when fishing up shallow around there beds. Fishing during the post-spawn can be really good and there can be many good bass caught. Spring can be really great fishing, try these things when your out fishing for springtime bass.
