The alabama rig has gained a lot of popularity since October 2011 when Paul Elias won a FLW Tour Open tournament on Lake Guntersville with it. His four day weight was 102 pounds. Since then everybody wants one. They are a extremely effective bait when Spotted Bass are eating shad and schooling. The bait is so effective that B.A.S.S banned them from there Elite series tournaments and in some states you can only have 2 or 3 baits on the rig. You can put swimbaits on them, grubs, or soft jerkbaits. We put Berkley Powerbait Hollow Belly swimbaits on ours or Powerbait or Gulp! Jerk Shads. You also need the right gear to throw them on because they can be tiring to throw. A baitcaster with a heavy action rod such as a 7'11 works great and 20 to 25lb Berkley Trilene XT (extra tough) line is a great outfit for the alabama rig. The Alabama Rig catches fish and when you have the right baits and the right gear with it you will catch Bass.
